Heroes & Empires roadmap to onboarding our player to our Web3 ecosystem
Seamless onboarding of users in the Web3
After releasing version 1.8, I have received many questions regarding adding Gems to the game, such as: Why add gems? What is the utility of the HE token after adding Gem? I will try my best to answer all these questions in this post.
Firstly, adding Gem is just the first step of our big plan to onboard millions of Web2 users to our ecosystem. This is similar to H&E being just the first game in our metaverse.
Secondly, version 1.8 is just an intermediate stage for us to introduce a brand new Free to Play experience. We will release new features and changes related to Gem in versions 1.9 and 1.10.
Lastly, if you want to know more, here are our answers:
To provide a better experience for Web2 players
Here is the old user flow of a Web2 player in Heroes & Empires:
As you can see, this player needs to pass at least 5 phases with at least 21 steps to play the game properly. This is a huge barrier to onboard those billions of Web2 players, especially in the bear market.
With the implementation of Gem and some other related changes, the flow will be something like this:
Only around 3 phases and 9 steps. Moreover, the third phase with Metamask is totally optional. As you may know, Web2 players didn’t have any option to sell their game assets in the past, before Heroes & Empires was born ;)
To provide a better experience for Web3 players as well
Yes, even Web3 players can try the game quickly by using any registration method. They can purchase the Gem with the supported payment from the stores, get the heroes and gears and connect their wallet later if they want to mint those NFTs or withdraw the HE tokens.
To respect the policies of the App Store and Google Play
This is one of the big problems for every NFT game at the moment. As you may know, Heroes & Empires is one of the first NFT games available on mobile platforms (Google Play and App Store). These big distribution channels have many “tough” policies to prevent NFT games from publishing there.
Apple reportedly said that crypto apps offering NFTs must either make them available to App Store users as in-app purchases or remove them from the app entirely.
Some developers could cheat them to get published, but this is not safe. If you got caught, your game and even developer account would be terminated. If you are small, no one cares about you, but if you get bigger, there will be. Remember that Axie Infinity, the biggest NFT game at the moment, isn’t published on those app stores yet.
To prepare for our upcoming sidechain/subnet and other networks
As you may know, we are working on our own sidechain/subnet together with some other partners (and 10+ game studios) and backed by a top blockchain network. We are also discussing directly with the core team of three of the biggest networks to bring our games to more Web3 users. And by using an in-game hard currency Gem, we will get rid of many headaches, such as different networks, UI/UX, item pricing, user acquisition, etc. We want to ensure the seamless onboarding of users in the Web3 era.
For example, after our sidechain ecosystem goes live, the user flow will be something like this:
More details will be announced soon, but from the picture above, could you guess what we will have? ;)
Add one more monetization channel for a healthy economy of the game
Last but not least, as we want to build a long-lasting project, we have to ensure the project survives in any situation, bear or bull market. Currently, we use all the revenue from the marketplace for NFT buyback. It makes HE’s NFTs among the most valuable NFTs on BNB Chain. Our team doesn’t sell the token from game revenue as well and puts them back into the reward pool. It keeps the Circulating Supply low as you can see.
However, we still have a team with 40+ members, together with server costs, operating and marketing expenses. We are also expanding the resources for the new game OverSpell, other networks implementation, sidechain/subnet and its ecosystem development. Currently, we use the fund from our strategic round for this, but if the game is not profitable, this fund will be burned out soon.
